Delegating step-by-step

Although through the use of a liquid restaking service such as Puffer, you can eliminate the inconveniences of a token lock-up and enjoy non-custodial staking, liquid restaking exposes stakeholders to interest rate risk, market volatility and additional slashing risks. Traditional staking, such as Everstake ETH non-custodial staking solutions, remains a straightforward and reliable choice.

How can I restake ETH through Puffer?

  • Step 1: Launch Quest at puffer.fi by clicking “Launch quest” button
  • Step 2: You will be forwarded to Chapter 4 to connect a wallet. Click “Connect”, select a wallet from a list (scroll down to see All Wallets) or choose Wallet Connet. confirm the connection – it will allow Puffer to see your address, account balance, activity and suggest transactions to approve
  • Step 3: Select your family. Each Puffer family is unique and is led by different members in the Puffer ecosystem. Choose your family to swim with throughout your Puffer journey. Click “Confirm family selection” to proceed and approve in your wallet – this will bind your X / Twitter to your wallet and accept the Puffer Quest Terms of Service (this request will not trigger a blockchain transaction or cost any gas fees)

Please note this action cannot be undone.

Binance Web3 family is only available for Simple Yield stakers. If your wallet does not qualify, you will be automatically enrolled in the Puffer family.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the Puffer's official Discord.

  • Step 4: Click "Stake" to open the staking pop-up. Select a token to stake and specify your stake amount. Click “Deposit Now” to confirm your choice and approve the transaction
  • Step 5: Enjoy Enjoy ETH (Beacon Chain) and restaking rewards by holding the pufETH nLRT rewards, instant points from Puffer partners and liquidity of your restaked tokens

NB:

  1. You will receive your pufETH nLRT automatically; they are minted in return.
  2. Neither Puffer nor node operators, responsible for managing your stake on behalf of Puffer, have no control over your funds, as Puffer provides liquid non-custodial restaking. Puffer’s self-custodial staking enables you to keep assets in your own wallet, and receive staking rewards without compromising on control.

Where can I restake to Puffer?

You can restake with Puffer via its app, as it supports a wide range of wallets (find your wallet at All Wallets) and the Wallet Connect protocol.

About Puffer

Puffer is a decentralized native liquid restaking protocol (nLRP) designed to harness the power of restaking. It is built on Eigenlayer and makes native restaking on it more accessible, allowing anyone to join Ethereum staking with any amount of ETH to receive rewards, as well as supercharging with EigenLayer AVSs rewards. In exchange for staking ETH, users receive the pufETH, which grows in value as the protocol mints VTs (validator Tickets (VTs) – ERC20 token that grant the holder the right to run a staker-funded Puffer Ethereum validator for a day) and receives restaking rewards.

In contrast with liquid staking tokens (LSTs), pufETH can provide more rewards for its holders. Not only it encompasses Ethereum PoS (staking) rewards and restaking rewards, but its value can accelerate quickly due to validator ticket sales. Furthermore, the PoS rewards for stakers are decoupled from the protocol validators' performance.

Everstake participation

Being a responsible validator is not limited to ensuring the blockchain works safely and soundly. It is also about ensuring a healthy ecosystem and protocol growth and development.

Everstake is proud to be one of the Node Operators maintaining the robustness and integrity of the Puffer protocol and the Ethereum network as a whole. We ensure the highest security of the Ethereum network thanks to our battle-tested infrastructure and paving early access to new benefit opportunities for ETH stakers to earn additional rewards.

This goes far beyond just being infrastructure providers, as Everstake actively participates in the decision-making processes and community education while ensuring network security and decentralization.

faq

What are Puffer values?

+

The protocol strives to improve Ethereum validator diversity. In this spirit, the Puffer was designed to be:

  • Safety first. The protocol aims to reduce staking and restaking risk for its stakers and the networks they are supporting.
  • Aligned with Ethereum's ethos. Puffer is self-capping its protocol size to 22% to protect Ethereum's credible neutrality.
  • Permissionless, allowing anyone with compatible hardware and 1 ETH to run an Ethereum validator.
  • Scalable to compete with centralized liquid staking protocols.

What is an nLRT?

+

Fundamentally, an nLRT (native Liquid Restaking Token) is an LST that delivers traditional staking rewards and boosts these with additional restaking rewards. nLRTs generate their restaking rewards through native restaking (for example, on the Eigenlayer), where ETH is the staked asset. This sets them apart from Liquid Restaking Tokens (LRTs).

An LRT tokenizes restaked LSTs within a Liquid Restaking Protocol (LRP). While the LRP generate rewards from restaking services, these are distinct from staking rewards.

Do I own my stake when restaking and delegating?

+

Yes, absolutely. Puffer is a non-custodial staking protocol, thus node operators do not hold your stake.

What are Validator Tickets?

+

Validator Tickets (VTs) are ERC20 tokens that grant the holder the right to run a Puffer staker-funded Ethereum validator for a day. VTs are minted by ETH deposits, which goes towards compensating pufETH holders for financing validators. Validator Tickets address “rug-pooling”, and incentivize good performance.

To run a validator, a node operator must lock VTs and lock in 1 ETH of pufETH as collateral. The price of a VT is set based on the expected daily earnings from running a validator, which directly influences the expected pufETH APR.

What does Puffer DAO look like?

+

The Guardians are a collective of respected community members who are deeply aligned with Ethereum's principles and values. These individuals, who function as a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), have a vested interest in the protocol's success and the wider benefit of the Ethereum ecosystem.

Their reputation within the community acts as a safeguard, ensuring they operate with the utmost integrity. Guardians have three main responsibilities within the Puffer protocol:

  1. Ejecting validators;
  2. Provisioning or skipping validators;
  3. Returning validator bonds on exit.

A majority agreement among the Guardians is required before any significant action is taken.

The Guardians' role, although crucial now, is a temporary measure designed to safeguard staker assets and ensure protocol growth in Ethereum's constantly evolving landscape until the respective EIP is in place to do this without human involvement.

What is the role of PUFFER token?

+

The PUFFER token is the native governance token of the Puffer Protocol and UniFi ecosystem. It is the cornerstone of Puffer governance model, empowering the community to:

  • Participate in key decisions
  • Shape the future of the Puffer ecosystem
  • Uphold Ethereum's core principles in all Puffer actions

Discover the role of PUFFER within the ecosystem:

Puffer LRT

  1. Govern key protocol parameters (fees, limits, bond requirements)
  2. Select guardians and restaking operators
  3. Curate supported AVSs
  4. Future feature: Help allocate ETH to different operators and AVSs (more details coming soon)

  4. Steer rollup upgrade decisions and feature prioritization

What is Everstake’s role in Puffer?

+

Everstake is a Restaking Operator (ReOp) whose job is to perform all the required AVS duties on behalf of a given Puffer restaking module. Everstake reliable infrastructure allows to enhance network stability and security while upholding the ethos of decentralization.

Everstake professionalism, experience, and track record of reliable operation allowed us to become one of 7 onboarded node operators to service Puffer users on EigenLayer, which aims to onboard trustworthy and established operators to foster a decentralized and secure protocol.
