The IP Portal is a platform that simplifies intellectual property (IP) management for creators, developers, and businesses. It uses the unique features of the Story blockchain to provide tools to register ownership, define licensing terms, and manage revenue within a transparent and automated environment.
Users can register various forms of digital content, such as artwork, video, audio, or AI-generated material, as intellectual property. The platform offers integrated options for licensing and monetization, and technical expertise is not needed.
The IP Portal is a comprehensive system for the entire IP lifecycle, including creation, registration, licensing, collaborative use, monetization, and, when necessary, dispute resolution. Its interface allows users to register their IP or browse existing assets through searchable catalogs. The platform supports individual creators, collaborative teams, and rights holders in managing intellectual property efficiently and securely.
This is a guideline for using the IP Portal. For more information on Story Protocol and its capabilities, check out the relevant articles on Everstake’s blog.
Get Started With IP Portal
The Portal is in its beta phase at the time of writing, which means early joiners will be fully equipped and ahead of the curve when all features, including monetization, go live.
Using it is quite intuitive.
First of all, go to the official website.

Before getting started, familiarize yourself with the core principles of the IP Protocol that powers the Portal. To do so, click the question mark icon to access the FAQ section, where you can learn about the platform’s essential principles and terms.

Click Sign In to access the Portal and further explore its features.

There are several options for signing in:
- Google account
Telegram account - Phone
If you prefer a more confidential mode, you can connect with a wallet supporting IP token, such as Leap, Metamask, Coinbase, Binance Wallet, and more.

Type the name you want the portal to display and enter the platform.
You’ll now see your alias displayed on the right side of the screen, along with a newly created IP address linked to your account. You can send tokens to this address to enable further operations.
To further personalize your profile, go to Settings, where you can optionally add a bio and upload a profile picture (pfp).

In the Account tab, you can also link your X, if you want to.

Having set up your profile, go back to the main menu by clicking on the Story logo on the left-hand side of the screen. You can find two main flows there: IP Registration and IP remixing.

Register Your Licensed Intellectual Property
To get started, click Register on Story and choose your registration type:
- New IP – to register an original work from scratch
- Remix – to register a creation built on top of an existing IP
Let’s try to register a brand-new IP by choosing New IP and clicking Next.
Before proceeding, ensure you’ve learned the basics of Story Protocol and how it powers the IP Portal. To do so, click the Ippy mascot in the bottom-left corner.

You can now upload your IP in video, audio, or image format (there are 15 supported file types overall), but the file size can’t exceed 25 MB.
In this example, we upload a simple JPG image.

Now add the name of the IP and its description. Once ready, hit Next.

If you intend to expand your collection, you can create a catalog or leave this IP standalone by choosing No Catalog. In our case, we did the latter.

Add co-creators and specify their IP accounts if there are any. Add nothing if you are a singular creator. Hit Next to proceed.

Select a license type to set your ownership rights. One asset may have up to 5 different licenses. You can select from four preset types:
- Open Use
- Non-Commercial Remix
- Commercial Use
- Commercial Remix
Click on the four icons below each license to learn about their permissions.

Alternatively, you can make up your own custom license. To do that, hit Custom License and set parameters like AI training permission, commercial use, and remixing manually.

In this example, we use two preset licenses: open use and non-commercial use. Once you’re ready, hit Next. Then, if necessary, you can adjust AI-related permissions.

Now, just upload your file by hitting Start Upload, and it’s done. This IP is now yours officially.
We recommend checking your licenses before publishing to ensure everything is how you want it.

You can access the summary of all licenses by clicking on them.

You can always learn more about your preset licenses by hitting View Legal Code. It is stored on the project’s GitHub.

When you’re done, you’ll see a pop-up notifying you of the IP’s successful registration.

Manage your IP Assets
All your assets are displayed on the Dashboard. You can access it from the drop-down list below the Account button.

The dashboard displays your IPs along with their key parameters.

Click on any IP to see its details. Your IP is visible to any Portal user, and they can use or remix it by minting a license (one mint per one use or remix).

Having minted the license and hit Use This Asset, a user can either download it or use it on one of the platforms integrated with the platform:
- Ablo: for customising exclusive merch
- PosterFun: making memes
- Verio: stake IP

Every asset has a unique link on the Portal, which you can share on X by hitting the arrow icon.

Remixing IPs
If you want to remix someone else’s IP, you can browse the existing collections. To do so, hit the Story icon in the upper right corner and click Browse IP on the homepage.

The browsing menu has sections for Featured and New Catalogs. To access all catalogs, click the All Catalogs button below the banner.

Note that there are standalone IPs that aren’t part of any catalog. To view them, scroll down until you reach the Browse the Repo section.

Click on the IP you want to remix and hit Register Remix. Then follow the steps described above, pay for the minting license if required, and it’s done!
